Several great structtures remain from Seljuk times. Alanya (ah-LAHN-yah,population 200,000) occupies a point of land flanked by two great sweeping beaches. Once a sleepy agricultural, fishing and tourist town, Alanya was heavily affected by the tourism boom of the late 1980s. With its wide swath of sandy beach stretching 22 km eastward from the town, it has become TURKEY`s mini-Miami, with a similar clutter of high-rise towers and resort hotels, lots of carpet-shop touts and high prices. İt`s now a favourite destination of European package holiday groups and those in search of furnished flats near the beach. Most of its charm has been buried in the process. İf you want sun and beach, Alanya has it. If you want more then beach, look elsewhere. Orientation The bus station (otogar) is on the coastal highway (Ataturk Caddesi) three km west of the centre. İt is served by city buses whichtake you into town every half-hour for US$ 0.60. Alanya, having gone from a small town to a 20-km-long city almost overnight, has no real traditional main square or civic centre. The centre - such as it is - lies inland (north) from the promontory which bears the roaming walls of the citadel. Scattered in this central area are the PTT, Tourism information Office and museum . The closest thing to a main square is Hürriyet Meydanı, a nondescript, wide traffic junction at the northern end of İskele Caddesi. Development inland is limited by the slopes of the confining taurus range, so the city sprawls east and west along the coast. The ranks of beach hotels don`t thin out until you reach the districts of Mahmutlar and Kargıcak, 15km east of Alanya centre. Seljuk Sites As Alanya gets very hot and humid in summer, early morning is the best time for sighteeing; spend the afternoon at the beach. Walk down to the harbour for a look at the Kızıl kule. Air Antalya International Airport is 130 km from Alanya , about 2 hours drive P.S:Another Airport is built near to Alanya which is just 30 minutes drive! It's waiting for the Goverment permission.
